Even better is the 2009 L’Enclos de La Chance Extra Fragrance. Made from 100-year-old Syrah vines, it is a blend of 94% Syrah and 6% Viognier. A Costieres de Nimes version of a Cotes Rotie from further north, this wine has an exotic nose that borders on kinky, with a plethora of spring flowers intermixed with black raspberries, sweet cherries and even some cassis, graphite, and smoky notes. Luscious, complex, and totally modern in style, but delicious and well-made, this wine should drink well over the next 4-5 years.

This excellent estate, owned by the Cornut family, has long been a reliable source for high-quality wines and values.
